The Worship Service
What Do You Mean by a Reformed Church
The morning service begins at 8:30am. You can read more about the service itself in the next FAQ tab (The Worship Service). We meet this early because we share space with a wonderful little congregation that owns the building. The service generally last for an hour and a half. Around 10:00am we convene to another part of the building and property for snacks and fellowship. We have Sunday School for several ages which begins at 10:45am.
Because our worship is more historically Protestant than contemporary, some feel like it is an imposition if they have children who are noisy. We do offer a nursery through 36 months of age. We do not have "Children's Church," because we believe that children should learn how to worship God with the whole congregation. It is as much for them as for anyone else. We want all ages to be near to the means of grace so that God might be pleased to use the means he has promised to save them, and so that they might come to learn how to worship our great God with the whole body of Christ in the local church.
We do not have a dress code at RBCNC, however, we do believe that we should all seek to dress modestly and with the recognition that we are engaging in something of unique importance when we draw near to God to worship Him. Some do wear a suit and tie, but many do not. The women wear dresses, skirts, and pants. We are not a head covering congregation. You will be welcomed at RBCNC regardless of your attire.
The pastors, and those leading worship, usually use the English Standard Version of the Bible. We long ago bought this version for our pew Bibles. However, we recognize and believe that there are a number of excellent English translations of the Bible with some being more careful to follow the original Hebrew and Greek texts in translation than others.
We have a growing young 20s age group and our church recently moved closer to Boulder. We are also expecting to share the building with a church plant come September 2026. Though we are mostly a commuter church, their goal is to try to be more local to Boulder. We have a great desire to reach Boulder and would like to go together with new ministry opportunities, especially to the CU campus.
We do not merely want people to come and go at RBCNC, but to become involved and invest their time, talent, and treasure in a local congregation. To that end, we strongly encourage church membership. This is part of our very mission as a church: "To engraft the believer into our local organized community of faith by rooting and establishing them in those things that bind Christians together in all places and times: Creed, Community, and Communion with the triune God."
Becoming a Member
Membership requires meeting with the elders and being able to articulate the following three things:
A credible testimony of faith in the living God.
Read and understand how our church constitution works and come with questions.
Read the Confession of Faith (the London Baptist 1689) and be able to agree with the chapter headings. (Our elders and deacons have a higher standard of "subscription" to the Confession than our members).
Non Members
We do realize that the idea of membership is difficult for people to understand and accept. Though it is our goal to see all of our people come to embrace it, membership is not required for attending services, functions, or activities of the church. Guests are more than invited, but are welcome at RBCNC, as are those who have not yet come to embrace our view of membership.
