John Michael Kortie was born on September 29, 1967, in York, Pennsylvania, and passed away on April 26, 2024, after a ten-month battle with esophageal cancer. A devoted husband to Bethanna for 24 years and father of three, he served three years in the U.S. Army, earned a B.A. in History from the University of South Florida, and was active in academic honors societies. In 2015, John and Bethanna moved to Arizona as missionaries to the O’odham people, where he faithfully preached the Gospel, supported native pastors, and served as a compassionate encourager and biblical counselor. At the time of his death, he was completing a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling, which was awarded to him posthumously. John lived by the motto “No Reserves. No Retreats. No Regrets,” wholeheartedly trusting and obeying God throughout his life.
