Sermons on the Law and the Gospel.
This five-week series sets the law and the gospel as two words of the one God. The law was given through Moses. Grace and truth came through the Son. The Old Testament is not simply “law,” and the New Testament is not simply “gospel,” since Christ was already the Word in the beginning. The commandment still comes to the Christian, names sin, and cannot bring life. Only the Holy Spirit does. Moses’ ministry was a real glory, and it was a ministry of condemnation being brought to an end. The Spirit’s ministry is a greater glory, and the veil comes off when a person turns to the Lord. “Be perfect” still applies, and the only man who was perfect is given as a gift. Confusion about these two words is not a small mistake. It is how the present age blinds a mind, and the word God has spoken in the Son is better than Sinai as the way of life with God.
